World Environment Day- 2010 Observation, Dimapur PDF Print E-mail
The World Environment Day 2010 was observed by planting choicest species of trees at the sprawling campus of the Christian Institute f Health Sciences and Research, 4th Mile, Dimapur.

It was a joint effort of the Forest department, Government of Nagaland and the Mission Higher Secondary School of the Ao Baptist Church, Dimapur which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year. Besides officials and staffs from the Forest department and the students and staffs from the Mission Higher Secondary School with its Managing Board members, the effort was joined by students and staffs of the Christian Mission Higher Secondary Schools, Diphupar and Vision Home School, Diphupar.
Altogether 3500 saplings of Titachop, Bhukul, Koroi and Neem trees were planted along the boundary walls.

The activity started with Dr. Viu Meru expressing welcome, appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the CIHSR, Dimapur. Mr. Kuocha Meyase IFS, DFO, Dimapur told in brief about June 5th being observed every year as World Environment Day. He also demonstrated how the saplings are planted. Dr.Moa Imsong of the Ao Baptst Church Dimapur offered prayer for the work to start.

It may be brought to mind that this is the 4th or 5th year the Forest Department had been planting trees in the Campus. A Forest officer had expressed his disappointment at how the saplings they painstakingly planted over the years are swamped by thick growth of grass in the Campus. One hopes that in a few years time the struggling young trees will ultimately triumph over the grass weaklings and our Campus becomes an island of tall, strong and broad shady trees.
